The other day, I had someone ask me about the Jumbo Wild stickers I have on my Jeep. When I explained to them what Jumbo Wild was, I was frankly a little shocked that they had not heard about the region and the proposed development. But, ifyou have not experienced the region, it may not register.
In 1990, a group called Glacier Resorts Ltd presented to the BC government their plan of developing a year round resort. Jumbo Valley is at headwaters of Jumbo Creek in the Purcell Range of the Columbia Mountains, and it is simply magnificent to say the least.
The significance of this region is one that has long been revered for its spiritual significance and beauty to the Ktunaxa Nation. It is known as Qat’muk, home of the grizzly bear spirit. Biologists recognize the area as critical core grizzly bear habitat and is the largest remaining tract of uninterrupted wilderness and a significant Grizzly range.
The last thing that is needed is another “resort” in the area. There is already enough development in the Columbia Valley and enough failed attempts to develop the region.
The cost of development of the resort is far to great and the last thing needed is another development that puts even more pressure of a diminishing resource.
Please take the time to watch the movie on NetFlix. It will help so much in understanding the importance of this area.
....Peace my friends, travel well on your journey today…
