From the book Deep Green Resistance:

I am reading the book Deep Green Resistance and this paragraph hit me hard. It really is so true that this is where we are heading as a “civilization”.

Read it and frankly, read the book.

It is primarily an urban phenomenon. Civilizations emerge from and promote the growth of cities. Cities offer a pool of workers who, crowded together and severed from land, must labor to survive. Urban areas are densely surveilled and policed. Urban areas are epicentres of strife when civilizations fall; as Lewis Mumford wrote, "Each historic civilization ... begins with a living urban core, the polis, and ends in a common graveyard of dust and bones, a Necropolis, or city of the dead: fire-scorched ruins, shattered buildings, empty workshops, heaps of meaningless refuse, the population massacred or driven into slavery."

Nasa-funded study: industrial civilisation headed for 'irreversible collapse'? | Nafeez Ahmed | Environment | The Guardian

A new study partly-sponsored by Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilisation could collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.

just cogs in the machine…

WE are not meant to be a slave to the system. Working some 9-5 day job we hate, to fuel a greed focused society that contributes to global destruction through unsustainable habits, to pay off a list of debts accumulated to sustain such lifestyle only to live in isolation, to use others to ‘get ahead’ …this is opposite of what the human spirit craves… and it must STOP!!!

Peace my friend, travel well on your journey today…

Something is busted

I look at the world I've made and continue to make. The ideas I find inspiring and the life I wound up leading are nowhere close....

I lament that gap and yearn for some deeper connection.... something that will let me feel more alive  yet I don’t do anything about it.

Instead I hustle every day to further a system I know is fundamentally broken.

......What the hell has happened to me?

ENOUGH ALREADY !!

OK....ENOUGH!!!!!

I am so sick and tired of hearing all these f*#k'n commercials for Black Friday.

Last time I checked, I was still a Canadian, not an American. I celebrate Thanksgiving when it is supposed to be celebrated...in October not freaking November.

But really what is pissing me off is the unabashed consumerism that is being pushed by retailers.  We as Canadians, are following the US when it comes to being the most materialistic society in the world. Think about it, we define our lives by how much stuff we have, to a large degree our personal and business relationships are defined by how much money we make, and even most of the important dates on our calendar are all about materialism. ( spending money on shit we don't need)

Sadly, no matter how big our homes are and no matter how many shiny new toys we accumulate, we never seem to be happy. We always want more, and we always seem to be willing to go into more debt to get it. We are the most materialistic society in the history of the world, and our endless greed is going to end up swallowing us alive.

And yet here we are...allowing ourselves to be lead down the same materialistic path the US is on....why?

Because Canadian retailers are getting wrapped up in this Black Friday and cyber Monday frenzy that is just another tactic employed to get people to spend money that they don't need to spend. No matter how you try to justify it, it is just retailers trying to get you to part with your money on goods that you probably don't really need and to get wrapped up in the spending frenzy that starts with the Christmas season.

So, do yourself a favour, don't allow yourself to get caught up in this greed that is pushed upon you.. put a stop to the indiscriminate buying… .do something nice for yourself, spend time with your family...do anything but buy some useless piece of crap that you will end up regretting..

And remember… you are Canadian….not an American.

Stephen Harpers secret Agenda?

The Federal habitat management programs will soon be closed around the country….another example of how the Conservative government and Stephen harper are hell bent on tearing apart the agencies designed to protect our environment….whats next?… a NeoFudalist society with Stephen harper as the Lord?

Non-Conformity

Over the weekend, I began reading Chris Guillebeau’s book – The Art of Non-Conformity. One section that stood out was where he listed 11 ways to be unremarkably average. In fact, I liked it so much I had to share it today:

1. Accept what people tell you at face value

2. Don’t question authority

3. Go to college because you’re supposed to, not because you want to learn something

NewImage

4. Go overseas once or twice in your life, to somewhere safe like England

5. Don’t try to learn another language; everyone else will eventually learn English

6. Think about starting your own business, but never do it

7. Think about writing a book, but never do it

8. Get the largest mortgage you qualify for and spend 30 years paying for it

9. Sit at a desk 40 hours a week for an average of 10 hours of productive work

10. Don’t stand out or draw attention to yourself

11. Jump through hoops. Check off boxes.

If you want nothing out of life, all you have to do is follow Chris’s list.

what pisses me off...?

Well, depending on who you talk to it could be a great number of things, but for for the sake of this post I will try to limit it to one thing.

Lets Start with Rudeness:

I HATE rudeness. From anybody. No matter who you are, how busy you are ( or think you are) or how self important you are, there is absolutely no need to be rude to anyone.

No rudeness.png

Somehow along the way we have lost our humanity and do not care about what anything that the other person does. People have become so self centred and will take every opportunity to screw the other person!!

peoples basic communication skills suck and we have come to expect that we will be treated rudely when buying something from a store. people do not have basic manners...when was the last time someone said please or thank you to you?

One day it will come back to haunt us. When the Shit Hits the Fan...and it will...we will not be able to interact with anyone face to face because we have lost these skills in society.

Time to replace beaver national emblem with polar bear, senator says.

I say are you freaking kidding me? What a waste of time and money, but that really  is so typical of our Senate.

Time to replace beaver national emblem with polar bear, senator says. Do you agree?:

A Canadian senator is calling for the industrious beaver to step aside for a new, more intimidating official national emblem: the polar bear.

What is a Digital Nomad?

A digital nomad is someone who uses technology and the internet to work remotely—from home, the coffee shop, internet cafe, or even to collaborate remotely with teams anywhere in the world. These entrepreneurs & professionals frequently use new technologies like iPhones, iPad, Laptops, wifi, and web-based applications to work and earn an income wherever they live or travel.

Digital nomads

ideally, I think it would be a wonderful way to work....it would be a fantastic way to slow down to the speed of life....not this insanity that big corporations feel they have the right to inflict on people.

here is a great link that may help you understand the term and what it can mean for you...more
